Three Steps in Creating a Great Kitchen

The kitchen is the most trafficked room in the house, and unlike the bathroom, it will usually be occupied by many people at the same time. Therefore, a kitchen remodel is a wise investment that will be enjoyed for years to come. If you are in the areas of Cranberry Township, Wexford, Mars, Butler or anywhere in the Pittsburgh Metropolitan Area for that matter, we can help you create the perfect kitchen. At Nelson Kitchen and Bath, we specialize in kitchen remodeling and will help you get the most out of your new kitchen.

There are three steps in creating a great kitchen and they all revolve around the planning stage. The first step you need to do is choose the proper layout of your new kitchen, then decide on the placement of major appliances, then work on the design aspects such as; cabinets, storage, tile, backsplash, flooring, lighting, and colors. Nelson Kitchen and Bath has access to all of the latest design tools to make your kitchen creation unique. We will do whatever possible to help you design a great kitchen.

When it comes to choosing the layout, it depends on the space that you have to work with. If you are updating an existing floor plan, you may be stuck with the confines of that plan. If you are completely knocking out walls and rehabbing the living space, then the sky is the limit with your design ideas. The most important thing to consider is the work triangle. This is an imaginary triangle formed by the placement of the sink, stove, and refrigerator. Having these three main kitchen tools in easy proximity will make your kitchen more efficient.

Once you know your space limitations, you can choose, an L shaped, U shaped, a one-walled, or a two-walled galley design. When it comes to adding kitchen islands, make sure they don’t block off any of the work triangle items. When deciding on the placement of major appliances take into account existing plumbing and electrical hook-ups. You can save money by working with what you already have in place or you can improve the placement of these items, while at the same time upgrading the system. Just try to balance the cost and the features to get the remodel that you are happy with, and you will end up with a great kitchen.

Probably, the most fun and the most difficult to decide on is the design aspect. What type of cabinets do you want? How much storage do you need and can you fit in the allotted space? What color countertops will look best with the cabinets? Do you want granite or concrete countertops? These are all major design concerns. You also need to decide on the type of flooring, the type of backsplash, any major lighting choices, and of course the color scheme. You can go with mostly neutral colors and then add color with a tile backsplash or let your imagination run wild.

The most important thing is that you have a kitchen you love. At Nelson Kitchen and Bath, we want you to have the most functional, well designed kitchen possible. At the same time, we want this kitchen to reflect your design tastes, so that every time you enter this room it makes you smile. It is our goal to help you get the most out of your kitchen remodel, and we have the tools and knowledge to make it a success.
